The Red Balloon

Doing some ramp up paintings to get back in the swing since I've mostly been about inks for a while now. This one kind of falls in the art envy vein. An image from the Criterion/Janus film The Red Balloon.

Just so you know...

I passed on August posting because I merely had more ink sketches to show and wanted to focus on gathering steam for something new. However, I didn't want to miss out on September entirely too. I thought about posting process photos but I never got around to it. Instead, I'll squeeze in a little tease.

That's right. It is a panel. A panel from a comic. One of the comics I've long been threatening no less. It's coming along slower than I'd like due to other obligations and probably in bigger part to my own self consciousness. Regardless, it is coming along at a pretty solid pace.

The real motivator... goodbye, Lucian

Finally, the real reason I got motivated to post. I just found out tonight that the mighty Lucian Freud passed on yesterday. I deeply admire the way he painted it like he saw it and while it may not have always been flattering to the model it was always a beautiful work. I was lucky enough to see a retrospective of his work at the Tate on my last big pre-kids vacation and it was amazing.

A quick one I sketched off the back photo from the book Man with a Blue Scarf by art critic Martin Gayford.

Now I Wanna...

A couple of the more successful sketches from a few I referenced off of I Need More .

The Henson Legacy

My son recently saw on this blog the collection of puppets I posted a while back and I will never hear the end of it if I don't post the recent additions to the paper bag family. So, while the first post was for out of town family, this one is for you little man.

Various Sesame Street characters including: our original Cookie Monster (once believed MIA and which my son demanded be in the picture), the Amazing Mumford, Rodeo Rosie, Zoe and Little Murray Sparkles.

The remaining three Yo Gabba Gabba characters.
Regis Faller's Polo and Pa Gorg (Fraggle Rock).

More Muppet Show alumni: Gonzo, Animal, Wanda and Janice. I'll be tempted to break down and do Floyd Pepper for myself if I get no requests soon just to have all the Electric Mayhem gang.

Muppet Show monsters: Sweetums, Timmy, Mean Mama, Behemoth and Thog.

There you have it.

Peace go with you, Gil

"Pieces of a Man" and "Winter in America" have graced my ears many times. Thanks for the music Gil. Good luck on that journey home.

Still swinging

I've mostly been interested in the energy given or received by one individual but I decided to mix it up and sketch a few interactions.
